The Reflexology Workshop

EARLY HISTORY OF REFLEXOLOGY

5,000 years ago - References found in India connected with Buddhism and Hinduism.

The feet symbolized Unity of the Universe with the Ultimate One.

Elements of the Universe are represented with signs on the soles of the feet.

Sanskrit Symbols correspond to anatomical reflexes.

Migration (via Buddhist and Hindu teachings) to Japan, Korea, China, Tibet and Vietnam.  The feet were massaged with other healing systems and worked with in China.

In 1979, Dr Gwendoline Raines discovered a papyrus, dated 2,500BC in which it stated how the feet were worked on as part of the Egyptian healing sciences.

In the tomb of Ankahmor, discovered in Saqqara, a wall painting was discovered depicting what is probably the first recorded picture of patients receiving 'reflexology'. It is thought that the patients were involved with working with the practitioner.
